Book Review: Life Stories

Life Stories book cover.Anyone who likes nature and/or Attenborough will love this book, Life Stories by Sir David Attenborough. In this book, Attenborough discusses various animals and plants looking at their environment and behaviour. The book conveys a great deal of wonder at the world we live in, which is excellently transferred to anyone who reads this fantastic book. Some of the animals include Salamanders, Birds of Paradise and the Platypus.

Making Money Online

How to make money online? If anyone has the real answer I would love to know. I often get asked how my site makes money and how much does the advertising bring in. Well despite all the sites on the Internet that promise you can make vast amounts of money fast, from say Google Adsense or Buy Sell Ads, or through affiliate linking such as themeforest.net, the reality is that none work unless you have a very high number of visitors to your site. So for everyone who keeps asking me how to make money, my advice would be first to increase the traffic to your site. I will write a detailed post on that topic in the future.

NOTE: themeforest link is an affiliate link.

Domain Names

I was renewing some of my domain names when I thought I would check to see what I actually have. It came as a complete shock to find out I ahve 30, or more, domain names. But thinking about it that is a mixture of business and personal so perhaps not so suprising. What was suprising though is there are domain names I have baught for clients, friends and family that have never been used such as beachables.co.uk, digital-slr.net and nywd.co.uk which I will look at getting rid of (i.e. selling). Whilst others such as jimmyriddle.com and nickpics.co.uk are both business projects that have taken a back seat whilst I deal with other work. I know others who have far more domains registered. I guess you just buy some domains for projects and forget about them!

Useful: Victoria County Histories

So I have been a little lax this year on updates to the site. That is now changing. I am aiming to get the useful blogs going again every other week. This week I am introducing the "Visoria County Histories" website over at - www.british-history.ac.uk. A fantastic resource for any British historian.

Site Update

This year has been chaotic and you will have noticed I have not posted a "What If" or "Review" post for a while. The "Review" posts will start back later this month but the "What If" posts will not return until later in the year. I have been busy updating themes ready for the release of Drupal 7. Also I have been working on several major projects including the "Peter Allen Memorial Lectures" (see paml.info) as well as several website redesigns, more to come on that later. I will be redesigning this website, nickbits.co.uk and thatchamhistoricalsociety.org.uk later in the year.
