The Commodore Story: A Company on the Edge by Brian Bagnall is, as the name suggests, all about the history of Commodore. Commodore was seen by many in the 70’s and 80’s as a pioneering computer company with cutting edge machines that were on a par with the likes of the Apple Mac and Lisa.
Their computer range included the PET, Vic 20, Commodore 64 and the Amiga. It seemed the company would keep going and going, but for some reason various people in the company started to make some bad choices, failing to see opportunities and take advantage of them. Then in the early 90’s, the company folded. Despite this, the world of computing would not be what it is today without this company. They have many of the best engineers in the world working for them and some of the sharpest business minds.
This book details all of the history including aspects of the management, engineers and computers. This is a must for anyone who grew up with an interest in computers or electronics in the 70’s and/or 80’s.
